A New Endeavor
I have attempted to write this blog now three times. This will be my fourth attempt. I get a paragraph in and then delete it because it doesn't feel right. So, I am not going to try and choose my words carefully I am just going to be raw with it.
Many of you that are close to me know how I feel about selling anything. I don't like it! I will recommend products that I sincerely think will be a good fit for my client's needs but I am not a numbers person nor will I push something to get some sort of incentive or reach some goal. I don't like the politics of retail or the disingenuous approaches that have been scripted that make me feel awkward, scoped for naivety, harassed to hold some type of "party" and then scorned for saying no, than empowered, confident and trusting. That has not changed. What has? Being in business for myself and all the things that I want to do I need to widen my scope and realize that I cannot do everything. I can't manage the administrative duties and physical demands of my job, corral a three year old, be a present wife AND make skincare products among other things. There are some simple things I can do and will continue to make, but for the bigger more involved things I needed to find a company that had these things to offer that were simple and affordable to both myself and clientele.
So... I decided to join BEAUTYCOUNTER. Why BEAUTYCOUNTER? They try to be as transparent as possible. I do too. They care about the ingredients they put in their products. I do too. They want their customer to be educated and make an informed decision. I do too. Are they the only company that I will use from now on? No. That's one of the wonderful things about being an artist. I am not tied to any one company. I am tied to the products that I believe will do the job the way I need it to no matter what company sells it. I do have my own likes and dislikes about things that I try to back or avoid in companies, like animal testing (avoid), harmful ingredients (avoid), recycling programs (back), organic ingredients and fair trade policies (back).
All that to say that I am on another journey, a journey within a journey, and I invite you to come along with me. I will be honest about the product and will do live demonstrations on real people. (calling all friends and family) They too will weigh in on what they like or dislike. If you want to read more about the company, browse the products they have to offer you can visit, read up and shop if you choose at www.beautycounter.com/synettbaker. If you have questions feel free to ask me in the comments or send me an email. Never any pressure coming from this direction!
I am excited to see how this goes. I am scared of making the wrong decision but, I have learned that if you don't try you will never know. So, here I am, trying.
